Example Calling EJB's using UD5.

Enterprise Java Bean's are similar to Uniface Services. They are functions written in Java that are deployed on a J2EE compliant server, such as the BEA Weblogics Server.

This example takes you through the steps necessary to use UD5 to activate an EJB on a BEA Weblogic Server.

Evaluation versions of BEA Weblogic Server may be downloaded from:

ClientTst example.

These examples require UD5 1.00.02 or higher. In the directory where you installed UD5, the sub-directory MrchHre contains a modified version of the BEA Weblogic Server sample class examples.ejb20.basic.beanManaged.Client named ClientTst.

Perform these steps to try this example (example assumes that BEA Weblogic Server has been installed on the local machine in the BEA_HOME of e:\bea and UD5 has been installed in d:\winnt4\usys72):

• Start a DOS prompt
• If you are using an Oracle database, ensure the Oracle database you wish to use is the first one referenced in your PATH, and that the BEA supplied Oracle JDBC connector is in the path eg:
  

  set Path=g:\ora805\bin;g:\frmdev\bin;e:\bea\wlserver6.1\bin\oci816_7

• Change working directory to the server configuration directory, e.g:
  

  e:
  cd \bea\wlserver6.1\config\examples

  
  or

  cd \bea\wlserver_10.0\samples\domains\wl_server

• Start the server, e.g:
  

  startExamplesServer

  bin\startWebLogic.cmd

• Enter the startup password if prompted
• Wait for the server to start
  

• Start a new DOS prompt
• Change working directory to the UD5 MrchHre directory, e.g:
  

  d:
  cd d:\winnt4\usys72\MrchHre

• Add the BEA WebLogic variables and the MrchHre directory to your environment, e.g:
  

  E:\bea\wlserver6.1\config\examples\setExamplesEnv

• The UD5 installer installed pre-compiled copies of ClientTst for JDK 1.3.1 and BEA Weblogic Server 6.1 and ClientTstb for JDK 1.5.0 and BEA Weblogic Server 10.0, or you can compile them yourself:

• Ensure that the example will run from the command line, e.g:

• Alter your IDF Assignment file (usys.asn) to include this line, e.g:
  

  [SERVICES_EXEC]
  CLIENTTST   $MW1:ClientTst
  CLIENTTSTB  $MW1:ClientTstb
  

• Start the IDF. The following steps take your through the process of creating the CLIENTTST or CLIENTTSTB signature, and CLIENT test form. When you installed UD5, pre-built copies of these were installed in the MrchHre directory clienttst.trx.
• Open the Assembly workbench, and create a new signature named CLIENTTST or CLIENTTSTB.
• Go To Implementations, and define a "C" implementation. Press "Properties", and set the "Output Base File Name" to examples.ejb20.basic.beanManaged.ClientTst .

• Go to Operations and define an operation name "maintst":

• Compile the Signature
• Open the Construction Workbench
• Create a new Form Component named: CLIENT or CLIENTB
• Paint an entity named DUMMY in the Application model DUMMY.
• Within it paint a small field for the paramters, a button, and a large multiline editbox, with scroll bars for the result.

• The DETAIL trigger code for the command button is:
